Wow! What an incredible wedding this was. It was such an honour to be a part of Matt and Marina’s wonderful wedding in Cyprus. Marina and Matt met once Marina moved to the UK to study, but she grew up in Cyprus. It seemed only fitting to take all of their family and friends to this beautiful little island and celebrate in true Cypriot fashion!
The Cypriots like to do things a little differently to the English and I am all for it! They start the day with two separate celebrations, where the friends and family of each the bride and groom go to their respective houses. They then have the dressing of the groom, and the dressing of the bride, where the friends and family help the bride and groom to finish getting ready. The groom then waits outside the church, with all of his friends and family, with the bride’s bouquet. The bride and all her friends and family following her, walk to the groom, she takes her bouquet and then they lead all their guests into the church. I absolutely love these different traditions, it was absolutely brilliant to be a part of.
It was a wonderful ceremony and gorgeous weather as to be expected. I loved the drinks reception in the church courtyard before sneaking off for a few couple portraits around the town and then up in the mountains. Matt and Marina then kicked off the party with their first dance on arrival – another Cypriot tradition – before enjoying some wonderful food and lovely speeches before the party kicked off!
